John Thorne, left, and John Begert receive plaques honoring their 33 years of service to Gaston Fire at a Washington County Fireman's Association meeting Jan. 16, 1980. With them are their wives, Betty Thorne and Marilyn Begert. Each man served as district chief. John Begert went on to serve another 17 years after this picture.
