The Gaston Greyhounds are headed to the Junior Baseball Organization state tournament after an 18-0 league season and first-place finish in the Washington County District.
The Gaston Junior National champs have strong ties to Gaston Fire: CJ Friedman, son of administrative assistant Deanna Friedman; and Trevor Reynolds, brother of firefighters Tyler and Megan Reynolds.
They hope to follow in the footsteps of Gaston firefighters Randy Hoodenpyl and Seth Hedin, who played on the team that won the state tournament when they were fifth graders.
In addition to their perfect league record, the Greyhounds coasted to a 25-2 overall record, first place in the Gervais invitational and fourth place in the Oregon City invitational.
Head coach Russ Morgan will lead his team into state tournament action at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at North Clackamas Park.
The team consists of: Alex Sweet, Ryan Sweet, CJ Friedman, Harrison Morgan, Nick Steele, Brandon Hunsaker, Tucker Wilson, Hunter Copley, Aiden Flanagan, Jarad Davis, Trevor Reynolds and Coach Jack Friedman.
